The Pilots were in New York on Sept 1 and 2 so if he's a Pilot in this picture it was taken in his first or second game with them.scotthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11938319046160452944noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-72805078553416215.post-56181656965286245322017-07-25T00:04:33.159-04:002017-07-25T00:04:33.159-04:00I once read that the newly minted Brewers, as Doug...I once read that the newly minted Brewers, as Douglas says above, hastily had the logos on their unis hastily restitched. Owner Bud Selig wanted to red and navy blue to be the team colors, but his hand was forced given the extremely tight deadline. I've heard that some of the stitching wasn't done very well and that the shadow of the original Pilots name was still visible on some of the unis after the Brewers name was substituted. I tried to find a good photo example, but couldn't locate one. You make an excellent point about the batting helmet. It also makes me wonder if it was airbrushed by Topps? Anyway, I am fascinated by the Pilots' short and troubled history (if one season is enough to call "history"). :)Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02253068319278832711noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-72805078553416215.post-65707504096036496622014-04-11T19:43:24.792-04:002014-04-11T19:43:24.792-04:00Bear in mind the history of the Brewers. The 1970 spring training they played as the Pilots. Equipment trucks were in Provo Utah waiting for word to go West or East. New uniforms could not be made in time so all Pilots gear had to be used. I live the Milwaukee area and once I will find Pilots memorabilia that was purchased in the Brewers first year. Ironic in a sense because Atlanta Braves memorabilia was sold in the last year of the Milwaukee Braves in 1965. Kinda of slap in the face of the city.<br />Douglashttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01050857323785108411noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-72805078553416215.post-13727058105949799682014-04-11T18:43:55.426-04:002014-04-11T18:43:55.426-04:00He's definitely wearing a Pilots helmet. There is an '84 Renata Galasso Pilots card of him showing him what appears to be an actual non-airbrushed cap. Interesting that Topps went 0 for 4 on that.Jamie Meyershttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15184760000629386642noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-72805078553416215.post-79853385715082557782014-04-11T12:36:14.458-04:002014-04-11T12:36:14.458-04:00I'm just speculating. The fact that Walton is "hiding" his uniform front made me a bit suspicious. But there are other '71 Brewers cards in the same stadium in which you can see "Brewers" on the front of their uniform.night owlhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11673973790245316059noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-72805078553416215.post-66457240153355965092014-04-11T11:48:32.046-04:002014-04-11T11:48:32.046-04:00I didn't realize there cards with guys in Pilo...I didn't realize there cards with guys in Pilots uniforms in the '71 set. And here I thought my "Ball Four" all-time Pilots card collection was complete. Stack22https://www.blogger.com/profile/17776094817608096430noreply@blogger.com
